After the events of some months ago when she was painting a mural at the zoo, artist Caroline Canfield withdrew from close human contact. She joined an Internet list server centering on wolves. Through many postings, Caroline feels as if she is ready to meet her new friends. The group planned to meet on the Valentine's Day weekend at Wolf Prairie, the wolf behavioral research and end education center. Hank, the owner of the center, is trying to restore the prairie in his little corner of the world.
From the time she arrives at Wolf Prairie nothing seems to go right for Caroline. The other group members regard her as a klutz and a lunatic because she insists she found the murdered body of one of them in a deserted cave. After drinking liquids that were meant for Hank, Caroline has hallucinatory episodes but everyone thinks she is paranoid. Caroline thinks something very ugly is going on at Wolf Prairie and she intends to discover what it is, partly to see the truth come out and partly to prove that she is as sane as anyone in the group.
Anthony and Agatha nominee Jacqueline Fielder has created another Caroline Canfield mystery that is exciting, realistic and completely absorbing. SKETCHES WITH WOLVES will appeal to Agatha Christie fans even though it contains better characterizations. This is a must read for anyone who likes a realistic puzzler.
