Plot Summary of House Call to the Past
"Dr. Angus McPherson, modern OB/GYN dr. on Cape Cod, MA, goes to deliver a baby in the middle of a storm. On the way, he is summoned by a man in a field, who begs him to come to save the life of his daughter and her newly-born baby. Dr. Angus wanders across the field--and across time--to 1713 to make the strangest HOUSE CALL TO THE PAST any dr. has ever made. He then decides to stay to protect his new patient, Maria Hallett, who has been accused of witchcraft. Together, they build a life, although Maria vows she will never love anyone but Black Sam Bellamy, the pirate who is the father of her child.
Great interaction between the two main characters, with time binding them together in spite of its difference. The sparring is fit for the boxing ring, but the lovemaking that eventually ensues is fuel for a raging inferno.
Rich in historical detail, the reader is drawn back in time as if they were living it themselves. Such fun things as an exorcism (complete with a black cat) appear.
Both Maria Hallett and Black Sam Bellamy were real historical characters. In fact, Maria was an ancestor of the author. Black Sam's pirate ship, the Whydah, was discovered by Barry Clifford and his expedition just five years ago. For more on this, check out the site for the Whydah Museum. "
