"Kinsey Millhone is having fun on May 5th. It's her birthday, she gets a new client and she makes a hit list! Persauded by a friend, she hires Robert Dietz, a tough bodyguard whom she likes and is attracted to. But can she take someone bossing her around for long?"
Megan, Resident Scholar

"In this tale of Kinsey Millhone, she celebrates her thirty-third birthday as only she can. Kinsey moves back into her renovated apartment, gets hired to find an elderly lady supposedly living in the Mojave Desert by herself, and makes the top of triggerman Tyrone Patty's hit list. As much as she hates to admit it, Kinsey realizes she's going to need help fending off a hit man and she hires a bofyguard: Robert Dietz, a Porsche-driving P.I. who takes his job very seriously. With Dietz watching her for the merest sign of her usual recklessness, Kinsey plunges into a case that will lead her into a gruesome truth about a long buried betrayal. "
Boppy, Resident Scholar

"This is the seventh adventure for Kinsey Milhone and in this one she is the target who needs the help of a bodyguard.
Receiving a call on her 33rd birthday from a fellow private investigator, she learns that she is the target of Tyrone Patty, a killer she helped track down. He suggests she might think about getting a body guard. But Kinsey feels she has better things to do with her money and decides to tackle her next case.
This case is one of tracking down her client's mother who lives on the edge of the Mojave Desert and is rather eccentric.
But before she can even start the case, she is run off the road by a red pick up truck, wrecking her 1968 VW and landing her in the local hospital.
Maybe a body guard is a good idea after all. Enter Robert Dietz, a burnt out detective in his late 40's, with bad knees. Not only is he her body guard but he becomes her lover and this is something that Kinsey was not planning on at all."

Joan Sellarole, Resident Scholar
