Plot Summary of The Long Goodbye
"Detective Philip Marlowe, after helping his friend Terry Lennox escape across the border into Mexico, discovers that Terry may be guilty of murdering his wife. As Marlowe tries to find the truth behind Sylvia Lennox's death, he becomes drawn into the high society/high corruption world of an eccentric author and his beautiful, cruel wife."
Ryan Harvey, Resident Scholar

"A private eye searches through various strata of LA culture for his friend, Terry Lennox, who seems to have disappeared. A major subplot involves an alcoholic novelist with writer's block.
You can read this book for the language and the social observation; one of Chandler's recurring themes is the corruption just below the surface of nearly everything. "

Riley Wallihan, Resident Scholar
