"The story of a young man from a "backwater" world joining the army, and being assigned into a special unit called "the Cobras". Most of story really shows what happends with our hero AFTER the war is over and he is left as a "walking weapon"."

"This book follows Johnny Moreau on his journey from teen-aged boy on a backwater colony planet to being an all-powerful technology-enhanced warrior, to eventually being an elderly statesman on a new frontier colony. Johnny becomes a COBRA warrior (with enhanced skeletal servo-mechanisms for super strength, and implanted lasers and other weapons, along with computer-controlled reflexes) to fight the alien Trofts, which have taken over two of the border planets under Earth control. Later, after the war, the COBRAs don't fit in with regular society anymore, and end up working as pioneers on the new frontier worlds, eventually getting cut off from the rest of humanity and developing their own independance."
Adam, Resident Scholar
