Plot Summary of Brother Blue: the portrait series
"Lehrer enables Brother Blue (aka Dr. Hugh Morgan Hill, professional storyteller), to present himself -- some of the significant aspects of his personality, and the big events of his life -- in his own words. Blue's stories deal with his family's poverty, with racism, teaching methods, people in wartime, and other subjects, and Lehrer presents them in a variety of type fonts and sizes on the page, so that the stories dance visually as much as in their meaning. Anyone who has seen Blue perform in person knows how magical he is; in this book (and in the Shambhala Lion recording of the same material), he comes personally alive."
David Loftus, Resident Scholar
