| Plot Summary of Shane |
" The book is set in the summer of 1899. A young boy spots a lone man riding into the small Montana town where has family and he have recently moved. The stranger, Shane, stops at the boy's (Bob Starrett) home to refresh himself from his long journey. Since the weather outlook is poor, Shane accepts their invitation to stay.
Shane gets along well with the family. But, neighboring cattlemaen keep trying to goad him into a fight by taunting him. He is trying to avoid being drawn into conflict. He is an ex gunslinger.
The cattlemen are trying to remove the Starretts friom the land. Shane becomes caught between his attachment to the family and hism wish to avoid responding violently.
The sides have been chosen and the battle line have been drawn. Which side will prevail ? Will Shane resort to violence?
