| Plot Summary of Second Sight |
"Venetia Milton is a photographer responsible for the financial support of a younger sister, brother, and aunt. They are barely keeping above water when Venetia accepts a very well paying position to photograph artifacts at Arcane House. The only conditions to the position is that she come alone and that they pay in advance. Upon her arrival she meets Gabriel Jones. He is an extremely handsome man and as they are alone, except for servants, and as she is already a spinster, she plans her seduction of him. What she does not know is that Gabriel's father is the one responsible for her being at Arcane House. Mr Jones believes that his son is too immersed in his scholarly pursuits and he believes that Venetia is perfect for him. She also does not know that Gabriel fell in love with her the moment he opened the door to her. It took her most of a week to fall in love with him. On one very special night Gabriel allows her seduction to work its magic only to have Arcane House broken into. He leads her to safety vowing to meet her at her home later and returns to the house to confront the burglars.
A few days later Venetia reads in the paper that Gabriel was killed in a house fire that night. She takes the money already deposited in her bank account and moves her family to London where she sets up shop as a photographer. She knows she will never succeed as a single woman in trade and decides to pose as a widow. Her new name is Mrs. Gabriel Jones. She does not know that Gabriel has staged his own death to catch a thief and killer. Three months later she reads in the newspaper that he has returned from the dead. That same day he shows up on her doorstep. The killer has been following her and she does not know it and Gabriel moves into her house to protect her and her family. As the story progresses she learns that Gabriel possess psychial powers and he learns that she possess similiar powers. She learns that Arcane House is a society for the study of such powers and was founded by Gabriel's ancestor some 200 years earlier and that he will someday replace his father as Master of the house.
For now they have a thief and killer to find and a ruse to maintain. A secret formula was stolen from Arcane House and the killer will stop at nothing to find the missing elements and to kill Gabriel. This story also involves a family secret in both the Milton household as well as the Jones' household. While the story can be involved at times there is a lot of humor in this book. "
