Plot Summary of Dawn Encounter
"After Lisette Moisant's husband is killed in a duel, her father-in-law becomes obsessed with getting her family's money and making her produce a heir to substitute the one taken from him. Lisette has no living family or friends to help her, so she turns to Caid O'Neil, the master swordsman who killed her husband, for help. Lisette feels indebted to him for releasing her from her loveless marriage and plans to eventually get him to marry her. That way she will be protected from her crazy father-in-law and she can pay Caid back for everything he has done for her by sharing her fortune with him.
She does not tell Caid of her long-term plans, however, and he feels it is his duty to be Lisette's protecter since he killed her husband. He is very much in love with her, but refuses to act on it since he is so far beneath her station.
When Lisette's father-in-law begins to take increasingly drastic actions against her she tries to make Caid see that the best way to protect the both of them is to get married, but he will not listen. His pride will not allow him to sully Lisette's name by marrying her and taking her money. But when Lisette is put into mortal danger by her deranged relative, Caid is forced to realize that his pride is getting in the way of her safety. "
