| Plot Summary of Cherished |
"Emily has always been overshadowed by her sister's, Sara, popularity. Although they are close when Leon Devereux, her aunt's brother, come to visit, she feels left out for Leon and Sara would go together in adventures leaving her out. It doesn't help raise her opinion of Leon when they always fight like cats and dogs. When she has been 16, she has been caught in a compromising situation with Leon forcing the both of them to marry. Emily hates Leon after the marriage and it has been a good thing that he disappears for America in the first 5 years of their marriage. But on the 5th year, Emily is seriously contemplating annulment when a gentleman named William Addison is courting her. However Leon returns to London and he comes to claim Emily as his wife. Emily is surprised by the change in Leon. Tricked into going with him in a private boat, they consummate their marriage. Emily is guilty after that because her sister still loves Sara and she believes that Leon loves Sara too instead of her. But Leon quickly dispels of her that notion and directly tells Sara that Emily is the one he loves. Suddenly Leon's past is catching up on him when a bullet almost hit Sara one day. Leon has been a trained assasin when he was younger and he has joined a fanatic group in France. Fearing that the group would want to kill him for his previous involvement to them, Leon decides to return to New York with Emily in tow. Sara is inconsolable and she makes a mistake of compromising herself with her next available suitor who happens to be a British soldier. Sara, who enjoys London society, is outraged when her husband tells her that they will be transferred and living in Canada. Leon and Emily with their isolation from London is able to make their marriage work. When Sara has been reported to be poisoned with laudanum, Leon thinks that his enemies are close. Emily convinces Leon of going to Sara for a visit. However there, Leon has been charged with murder after his former mistress was found dead at the night of Emily's birthday party. 2 witnesses have vouched for the murder - William Addison and Sara's husband. Leon flees and Emily together with her sister are ordered to be return to London. During their voyage to London, crossing Canada to the US, Emily and her sister are abducted by Leon's cohorts and brought to one settlement. There Emily learns that her husband is really innocent. But Leon still faces danger and by having his wife and her sister with him, he wants to find out who is really threatening their lives before someone he loves gets hurt."
