Plot Summary of Chill of Fear
"FBI agent Quentin Hayes has been haunted for over twenty years by an unsolved murder from his past. As a twelve year old, Quentin spent the summer living at a Victorian resort called The Lodge in Leisure, Tennessee. Quentin befriended a child named Missy, who was the daughter of one of the maids at the Resort. When Missy was found murdered that summer at The Lodge, Quentin's childhood is changed forever. Now, Quentin is a part of an elite group of FBI agents that possess psychic abilities and aids in tracking down murderers and solving difficult cases. Although Quentin has returned once a year to Leisure in order to solve Missy's murder, he has been unable to break through and crack the case. In his research, Quentin has discovered that numerous other children have disappeared from The Lodge and are presumed dead. Once again Quentin has returned to the Lodge in order to delve into Missy's murder and the other childrens' disappearances. Quentin can't help but feel that there is an evil presence at The Lodge, one that he wants to stop at all costs. Diana Brisco has come to The Lodge at her psychiatrists' recommendation. For her entire life Diana has been plagued by haunting voices and strange visions. For most of her life Diana has been shunted off to one doctor after another, medicated and hospitalized. Diana is eager to participate in an art therapy conference that is being held at the Lodge. Diana feels that this is her last chance to rid herself of her psychiatric problems. When Quentin meets Diana at the Lodge he instantly recognizes her as a psychic. When Diana tells Quentin about her precarious mental state, he calmly informs her that she is not crazy, merely psychic. Diana, who has spent her entire life hearing that she is mentally unsound, is hesitant to believe that she possesses psychic abilities. Quentin confides in Diana and tells her about his own skills, his job with the FBI unit and about Missy's unsolved murder.
When Diana paints a picture of Missy, despite the fact that she never knew the child, Quentin is convinced that Diana has a rare ability as a medium, one who communicates with the dead. When Diana starts seeing ghosts of the children who disappeared at The Lodge, it is clear that forces from beyond the grave are reaching out for help from Diana and Quentin. As Quentin tries to convince Diana that she may hold the key to the murders from the past, a deadly killer rises up to prevent Diana from remembering him."
