Plot Summary of The Scorsolini Marriage Bargain
"Therese Scorsolini is dissatisfied with her life as a princess and wife to soon-to-be-king Claudio Scorsolini. After 3 years of marriage, she has found her job too mundane and tiring. But what really causes her discontentment is her marriage with Claudio. Claudio has never showed any deeper emotion for her even after all the years together. He always put his duty first before her and has never really cared how she feels especially when she has been sick with endometriosis which causes her indefinable pain and bleeding. When she finds out that her doctor tells her that she is infertile because of her disease she is devastated. She won't be able to fulfill her duty in giving the prince an heir. So she has decided to divorce Claudio even when it hurts her terribly. She feels that her husband will agree to the divorce when he finds out about her infertility. Since she believes that he doesn't love her, it will be easy for him to grant her freedom.
Claudio is bewildered by his wife's recent actions. She seems not focus with her duties anymore, sometimes half-listening to what he's saying, and more importantly she refuses his touch for months already which has never happened before. He suspects that she has a secret lover and when she confides to him that she wants a divorce, his suspicion has been confirmed. Beyond hurt, he won't grant her a divorce because deep in his heart Therese is the only woman for him. But soon he realizes that the real reason behind his wife's request for divorce has been her infertility issue and it gives him relief because she has not betrayed him and he is the only man who has owned her. Claudio also begins to realize his wife's odd behavior when he finds out the extent of pain and bleeding her disease causes her. He tells his wife that he doesn't mind her infertility that they would still remain true to their vows. Therese is confused by Claudio's actions because he seems to express that she is the number one priority in his life and he is doing everything to take care of her. Being honorable, Therese still insists on divorce telling him that she can't disgrace the royalty by not giving him any heirs. And the only way she will be convince is if Claudio shows and tells her that he loves her, that their marriage is more than a convenience or contract. Claudio works hard to express his love for Therese, banishing all her previous doubts that he doesn't care for her.
