Plot Summary of A Matter of Choice
"Exceptional police seargent James Sladermann has been appointed by the chief commissioner to look after his goddaughter, Jessica Winslow. His duty is to investigate any smuggling activity in Jessica's antique shop. The commissioner believes that one of Jessica's employees are smuggling high-priced item through the shop. He also has to protect Jessica in case the culprit turns dangerous.
He goes to Jessica's house under the disguise as being a writer and hired by her godfather to help her organize the books in the library. He is surprised to find Jessica to be beautiful and caring. She always looks out for all the people she employs especially David, who is her shop assistant and the housekeeper's son. Being inside the house and near Jessica, James has a good chance of catching the suspect. But being in close proximity with the owner makes him feel more than attracted to Jessica. Jessica feels attracted to James also. When she finds out that James is actually staying in the house to look after her, she feels relieved because she has began to suspect something's wrong in the shop. With James's information, she helps him find the person who's been using her and the shop to smuggle antiques. But the culprit begins shooting at Jessica. James tries his best to protect her. Jessica is torn to turn in one of her employees if one of them is really the culprit. Meanwhile, Jessica and James's passion heats up and they become lovers. Jessica soon becomes in love with James while he refuses to acknowledge his feelings for her. He feels that he doesn't belong in Jessica's rich world.
Jessica finally confronts Michael, who is her employee and the one behind the smuggling. Michael panics and tells Jessica everything. They go to her shop only to find out that Michael's partner is not too happy about telling Jessica the whole truth. Jessica faces danger and James has just realized everything too late. He rushes in to save Jessica before she gets killed. After saving her, James walks away, telling himself that he has no part in her world. But constant misery and yearning drives him back to Jessica and he convinces her how much he loves her.
