Plot Summary of Freedom's Price
"Liam Bartlett has agreed to look after Santiago's niece Marisala. He has known them when he has been a hostage in a prisoner's camp at San salustiano. It has been Marisala's rebel group who has freed him. Later when his brother arrives with his former fiancée, he has been whisked off from the place to the United States and resumes to go back to his life as a political journalist. However he can't forget Marisala who has been 17 back then but filled with determination to set her country free. Now Marisala arrives to the US to study in a university. Her presence stirs up deep feelings he has for her ever since the time she has rescued him. But because he respects Santiago, he keeps his hands off her. When she has trouble finding an apartment to stay in, she temporarily bunks up in Liam's apartment.
Marisala is attracted to Liam. She has fallen in love with him when he let himself to be taken in instead of having the whole village hostaged by the corrupted government official. Now she is surprised to find that Liam is attracted to her too. Marisala knows that Liam is still having nightmares about his captivity. He is afraid of closed-in spaces and he can't seem to finish the novel he dreams of writing about. With Marisala's presence, he is more distracted and less likely to finish the novel. When Marisala finds out the extent of agreement between her uncle and Liam, she is furious for she has been thought by her uncle as uncivilized and that she needs to be taught how to dance, to conduct social talk, etc with the help of Liam. Marisala refuses to go with her uncle's plan until Liam convinces her. They seem to get well together but Marisala is at her wits end on how to get Liam to sleep with her. Evenutally they sleep together. And Liam has finally begun to find the peace he has been looking for. He proposes to Marisala and she agrees. But during the engagement, Marisala finds herself hysterical because she is innocently being changed into something she's not. Furthermore Liam still refuses to come into terms with his past, which put a strain to their relationship. She calls off the engagement and even with Liam's declaration of love, she still runs away. Liam tries to find her but isn't successful. He decides to pen his feelings, his traumatic past in his Sunday newspaper column hoping that Marisala can read it and see that he truly loves her.
