"Mikayla Grey has almost died trying to reach Calvin Bartlett in his ranch when a fierce storm blows in. Cal finds and rescues Kayla almost hypothermic. When Kayla's temperature returns to normal, Cal is attracted by her beautiful physique. Kayla feels the same way and immediately feels guilty for Cal is her ex-fiancee's brother, Liam. She has met Liam when she has been working in a women's crisis center. Liam has been dedicated and passionate on upholding human rights. They become an item and Liam has proposed to Kayla before he journeys to San Salustiano to uncover civil and political unrest there. But news travel back to them that the bus Liam has been riding explodes leaving no one alive. 2 years after Kayla, who still doesn't believe that Liam is dead, encounters a Spanish-speaking woman who tells her about an imprisoned man in San Salustiano having the exact description to Liam. Kayla goes to the government for help and investigation of the case but they've turn her down. So she goes to Calvin to ask his support and company to find the truth behind Liam's death.
Calvin is still devastated when he has buried Liam 2 years ago. Being the older brother, he has taken care of Liam when they have both been orphaned. He has supported Liam's passion on humanitarian activities. But his death has brought him too much pain to the point that he too has wanted to die. When Kayla suddenly appears, his life becomes alive once again. He experiences an intense attraction to her. However when he finds out that she has been Liam's fiancée, he is disappointed and hurt. He can't seduce his brother's fiancée. When he hears her story about Liam being alive, he agrees to help her and goes with her to San Salustiano posing as newlyweds.
When they get to San Salustiano, they gather clues that completely convince them that Liam is alive. However their investigation also put them in danger. They find their apartment being bugged, being followed by a suspicious looking vehicle, being shot at by rebels, and even accosted in their hotel room. They have trouble whom to trust. The proximity also brings the attraction between Kayla and Calvin into fruition. They agree that when they see Liam, it will end. Apparently the rebels are on their side and they are keeping Liam protected. When they both see Liam alive, they escape the island with the help of the rebels. After being back in the States, Calvin and Kayla separate. Kayla cheers up Liam but in the end, he has cheered her up by encouraging her to go after his brother. And Kayla follows her heart and goes after Calvin.
