Plot Summary of Phantom Waltz
"Bethany Coulter's life and dreams come into ruin when she become paraplegic at the age of 17 after a barrel racing accident. Despite her disability, she tries to be self-sufficient not wanting any help from her protective family. With her sunny disposition, she has accepted that she'll never have a normal life, a family of her own, or even a suitor.
Wealthy rancher Ryan Kendrick takes one look at Bethany and falls instantly in love. He asks for a date but when he sees that Bethany is a paraplegic, he almost breaks off the date. Feeling that she has had enough rejection in her life, he insists on the date and they have a wonderful time. With Bethany, Ryan sees that she's the woman he's been looking for all his life. However Bethany doesn't see that way. She fears that if she enters in a relationship with Ryan, she will tie him down with taking care of her. Moreover she can't give him a normal sex life much more a child for her doctor says getting pregnant is fatal for her.
Ryan tries to convince Bethany that he's sincere and loves her. But Bethany refuses to meet with him anymore. So Ryan tells Bethany that if she doesn't want them to be lovers, they can be friends. Bethany agrees. However friendship with Ryan drives Bethany mad for Ryan always anticipate her needs and give it to her. Her feelings for Ryan change into love when she finally realizes that Ryan loves her by transforming his ranch into a safe enviroment for her disability. He also brings back her favorite horse and shows her a saddle made for her needs so that she can ride again. With all these bombardment of love from Ryan, she agrees to marry him.
While they are riding into the wilderness they encounter a grizzly bear on a rampage. Ryan has chosen to put Bethany into safety first before tackling the bear. And those few seconds that he put Bethany out harm ways has almost caused him his life when the bear charges at him and mawl him. Bethany shoots the bear and scare him off but Ryan remains bleeding. They are rescued and admitted to the hospital. That moment Bethany decides to leave Ryan for his own good because Ryan will always sacrifice his life before her just to protect her - a guilt she can't survive. When Ryan is finally healed from his wounds, he is angry at Bethany for leaving him. Only when he discover Bethany's reason and fear that he understands her. He chases after her and let her see that although she protects him from harm's way, she has made his life unhappy by leaving him. "
