"Frankie Paresky and Simon Hunt has been the best of friends since childhood. Now that they're adults, Frankie keeps having lustful thoughts toward Simon. Simon feels the same way. However Frankie knows that it'll be a mistake to act on her feelings because Simon is known to be the Sunrise Key's cassanova – he dates and sleeps with women but doesn't actually commit himself to one. If ever they would sleep together, she knows that when Simon leaves her, it'll also be the end of their friendship. Simon, on the other hand, keeps thinking of Frankie lately. But with Frankie, he is cautious because their friendship is also in the line. Although she doesn't appear to reciprocate the same feelings he has for her, he still stays back for fear of rejection from Frankie.
When Frankie gets a case to find Alice Winfield's friend, John, she is once again reacquainted with the memory of her first boyfriend, Jazz Chester, who is the son of John. Simon is instantly jealous because Frankie has the idea that this is fate bringing her and Jazz back together, that she and Jazz are meant to be. Frankie flies to Boston to meet with Jazz. Simon who self-appointed himself as her assistant, follows her to Boston despite Frankie's disapproval. When Simon catches up with her at the hotel, he is upset to see that Frankie is enjoying herself with Jazz. However, Frankie suddenly punches Jazz and runs back to her hotel room. Simon quickly follows to find out what has happened. Frankie tells him that Jazz is actually a married man, just playing her. At the midst of the emotional upheaval, their real feelings for each other surface and they finally act on it. However the following morning, Frankie resolutely tells Simon that it has only been a one-night stand, that she doesn't expect any kind of commitment from Simon. Simon instead of being happy is bothered by Frankie's straightforward attitude.
When they return back to Sunrise Key, Frankie hides from Simon. Simon realizes that he can't live without Frankie, that not seeing her is making him miserable.
