Plot Summary of Double Jeopardy
"Travis Byrne, ex-cop turned lawyer, agrees to defend a known criminal, Al Moroconi, for rape, after the first lawyer who had the case mysteriously disappeared. Byrne does not like Moroconi, but doesn't think he is guilty of that particular crime.

After the first day of trial, Byrne is winning the case, but Moroconi breaks out of jail that night. Late that night, Moroconi calls Byrne and asks Byrne to meet him. Byrne tells Moroconi he will, if Moroconi will let Byrne take him to the police station to turn himself in. Moroconi agrees, but has no intention of going back to jail; when he finds Byrne, he just slips him a piece of paper. Just then two guys show up, say they are the police, and demand the paper. Moroconi begins shooting and the guys shoot back. Byrne jumps out of the line of fire. Moroconi kills one of the guys and drives off. Byrne is now involved in whatever Moroconi is involved in. The problem is, Byrne does not know what Moroconi is involved in.

Byrne goes back to his apartment but realizes there are two men outside waiting for him, so he cannot go in. The next morning he buys a newspaper and finds out Moroconi is wanted for the shooting, and Byrne is wanted as an accomplice. Byrne then calls the FBI and asks for protection, but when three FBI guys come to where Byrne is, two start shooting at him!

Byrne realizes his only chance to save his own life is to find Moroconi and find out what he is involved in, and find out why he wanted Byrne involved.
