Plot Summary of Bait
"FBI Special Agent Sam McCabe is tracking a serial killer across the country. The killer always calls McCabe on his cell phone, taunting him and leaving clues, and then killing the victims minutes before McCabe arrives on the scene. His latest target is Madeline Fitzgerald.
When the killer arrives at her hotel in New Orleans to kill her however, there are two Madeline Fitzgearlds staying at the hotel. He attacks both, but one of them survives the attack. This is the break in the cast that McCabe has been waiting for. He knows that the killer will go after Maddie again. He wants to give her guards and keep her under surveillance until the killer makes his move.
Maddie has different ideas. She has a shady past, and the last thing she wants are feds on her tail. She is hostile and uncooperative at first, but as more attempts are made on her life she realizes that she needs FBI protection.
As McCabe and his team protect Maddie, she and McCabe begin to develop a relationship. Neither of them are happy about it, but they fall in love. Maddie knows that when McCabe learns the truth about her past he won't want her anymore, but eventually he must know the truth to find the killer. They must work past this barrier and catch the murderer before he gets to Maddie again, because once he does, he's not likely to let her escape from him twice."
