Plot Summary of Friday's Child
"Angered and humiliated by his beautiful neighbour's refusal to his offer of marriage, which was necessitated by the fact that he did not come into his inheritance until he was twenty-five, or married before this date, Lord Anthony Sherringham determines to marry the first female he meets on his return to London. She comes in the seventeen year-old form of Miss Hero Wantage, his childhood friend who has been in love with him ever since he made her his gofer when she was little.

She accepts his offer of a marriage of convenience, having had the situation explained fully to her. But she is unprepared for the responsibility of running a house, and her husband has no idea how to help. As Hero, dubbed Kitten by her husband and adoring friends, tumbles in and out of scrapes, Sherry, her husband, realises that it is more difficult to lead a life of carelessness that he had first anticipated. The ultimatum comes when Kitten enters a race, a most scandalous thing for a lady of quality to do, and Sherry threatens to send her to his mother in the country, who has made is clear that she hates her daughter in law. Terrified, Kitten runs to Sherry's friend, Gil, who whisks her off to his aunt in Bath.

Sherry is more distraught than he thought he could ever find himself over his wife. He searches everywhere, and finally, his hunt brings him to Bath, where he sees his wife, going by her maiden name, happily speaking with the eligible men of bath. Believing her to be happy, he prepares to leave, but not until he does the decent thing of divorcing her. Can they both realise their mistakes before it is too late?
