"After the sudden death of her abusive husband, Franklin, Elizabeth thought with Mauna Noe, the ranch she and Haley, her little sick daughter could inherit, their lives would see the brighter days. Much less to her awareness, Franklin had put Spence Laamea, his illegimate and long forgotten son who was unknown to Elizabeth, in his will as the guardian of Hadley and Mauna Noe until the day Hadley turned 18.
After being betrayed by her first love, her greedy relative and suffering her husband's brutality, Elizabeth came to trust no one and was overprotective towards Hadley.
