| Plot Summary of Bath Tangle |
"Lady Serena's father had always been eccentric - even now, after his death, his legacy lives on. Having left behind a widow younger than Serena himself, the whole family is eager to see what the will holds... But they are unpleasantly surprised when Serena, who, whilst stunningly beautiful, is unmarried, has been left to the guardianship of the very man she had been engaged to (and jilted) some years beforehand. It seems that her father is determined to make the match, even after his death.
Serena and Fanny (her 'mother in law') leave the country for Bath, where they run into an old lover of Serena's - having gained a fortune, he is now far from being the unsuitable boy of 7 years ago. They become engaged almost immediately - before he has time to realise that he might have had a change of heart during those years, and would now much rather prefer Fanny (who also happens to be in love with him).
Meanwhile Serena's guardian, the Marquis of Rotherham, has, whilst residing in London, also gotten engaged, and, surprisingly, to a girl barely out of the schoolroom who happens to be friends with Serena. Can this strange match have something to do with the girl's greedy mother? Is the girl really in love with another, or just afraid of her fiancee? And are Serena and the Marquis blind to what is staring them in the face?"
