" Sam becomes worried when the Phantom Stallion came too close to being seen when Sam and Jake search for Slocum's missing daughter, Rachel. Sure that this will put him in danger of being too trusting for a wild animal, Sam does all she can to keep him away for his own safety. Not only that, but Slocum's long-held grudge against the Phantom makes him think of a plot to harm the stallion.
When Karla Starr, a persistent rodeo contractor insists on buying tamed mustangs, Sam is suspicious. On riding upon the desert, Sam finds the Phantom's herd, but he is missing. With Slocum's threats, Rachel's vague hints, and evidence mounting up in the rodeo, Sam does all she can to save the Phantom."
