| Plot Summary of Dark Sunshine |
" Samantha Forster is horrified when she witnesses an illegal mustang round-up of the Phantom's herd. When four horses are left behind, one a mare that was used to lure the herd in, Sam is in danger of being caught by the horse rustlers. The little mare is left behind again as the other three mustangs are taken away to be processed into dog food. Sam feels she has done a good thing, taking the mare away to her ranch, but her father's disapproval and the mare's wild behavior settles heavily upon her responsibilities.
Also, she is shocked and angry when her father agrees to help sponsor the HARP program, where troubled young girls and horses are paired together for healing. She thinks her father did it only for Brynna Olson, whom she believes he has a crush on. Mikki Small, the HARP girl, is troublesome and puts the whole ranch in danger when her cigarette burns the bunkhouse and farm.
Meanwhile, Sam is in more danger. The horse rustlers know the mare was taken, and Sam believes they know she has the mare named Dark Sunshine. "
