Plot Summary of Going Down
"Bennington Bloom aka "Benny" finds an advertisement in the NYC Village Voice Newspaper one day that says COED$. And, this is just the beginning of her being a paid Escort. The daughter of divorced parents, nineteen-year-old Benny searches for a place to hang her hat and struggles with unresolved anger she has for her father, with the hope of one day becoming an Actor.

Benny's first Escort job is at an agency run by a woman named Holly. Although the money is everything Benny hoped it would be, she finds herself having to think about the money during the sessions with clients to get through some of her darkest hours. Soon into the job, however, Benny is falsely accused of sleeping with Holly's husband and is immediately fired. So, Benny also at this time takes the money she has saved and signs up for a semester of acting classes at NYU and starts to see a shrink, Mrs. Johnson. And then, soon after, takes another Escort position at an agency run by a woman named Bobbi. Then, in one day, Benny quits both her job and acting classes, as she begins to feel her world in Manhattan getting smaller and smaller. We learn at this point that Benny has a pattern of quitting things in general. Benny quickly starts working as an escort a third time, this time at an agency run by a woman named Gail. While Benny is working full-time as an Escort at the third agency she meets a man named Adam and they quickly start dating. Several months into their relationship, he begins to suspect that Benny might be working as an Escort, and, one day, masquerading as a client, he uncovers the truth. Although Benny quickly promises Adam that she will quit her job for him, he leaves her.

In the end, Benny works through some of her anger and moves back in with her father, and, leaves the Escort world behind her. Within six weeks of Adam leaving her, Benny gradually gets over her failed relationship, accepts a job as a woman against pornography and during an audition discovers that she has found a new depth as an Actor as a result of her painful experiences. The same night as her audition, Benny meets a man on a train and, as he and she make plans to go to dinner together, one can only be left with the feeling that Benny will be ok."
