Plot Summary of All the Pretty Horses
"    After his grandfather's death, his parent's divorce and the loss of the family ranch, John Grady Cole decides to leave his world behind and cross the border into Mexico with his friend Lacey Rawlins. While still in Texas the boys run into another traveler--Jimmy Blevins, a scrawny kid on a stolen horse--and reluctantly take him in. The three cross the Rio Grande into Mexico, looking for work and a new life.
The boys soon get into trouble after Blevins loses his horse during a thunderstorm and then steals it back from the man who finds it. Blevins splits up from John Grady and Rawlins, galloping down the road, a posse on his trail.
Moving on, John Grady and Rawlins find work cowboying on a hacienda. John Grady falls in love with Alejandra, the hacienda owner's daughter. But just as their romance is blossoming, John Grady is arrested, along with Rawlins, and taken to jail. Sharing their cell is Blevins, charged with a triple murder after trying to retrieve his lost pistol. John Grady and Rawlins are treated as horse thieves and conspirators in Blevins' killings. They have no way to prove their innocence and no money to buy their way out. John Grady has to get out of jail, find his horse and get back to the one he loves. But the odds are, of course, stacked against him.
