"John Feinstein tells the story of caddy Bruce Edwards and PGA golf star Tom Watson. Partners for over 30 years, winning 38 professional tournaments and 8 majors, Edwards and Watson were recognized around the world for their successful pairing on the golf tour each weekend. Watson was at one time the best golfer in the world and humbly attributed a large part of his success to his friend and caddy. Except for a three-year stint looping for Greg Norman, the two were inseparable.
When diagnosed with ALS (better known as Lou Gerig's disease) Bruce's prognosis was grim, he was told he only had 1-3 years to live. Edward's and Watson were determined to make the most of their remaining limited time together. The golfing world was saddened as Edward's condition worsened affecting his ability to endure the rigors of lugging a forty pound golf bag over 18 holes of golf for a week. Edwards managed to find happiness marrying a woman he had known for decades just a few weeks after learning of his medical condition."
