| Plot Summary of The Best of Times: A Novel of Love and War |
"The author has produced a well-crafted and poignant World War II love story involving a young American fighter group commander and a much older English lady. But beyond this classy romance, the author has done his homework and shows he understands the European air war against the Nazis and what made the aircraft he piloted, the P-47 Thunderbolt, a great combat aircraft.
The story is set in England in 1943 when the American Air Forces first entered the conflict and determined to prove that daylight strategic bombing could hasten, if not bring about, the defeat of Germany and her allies. Even young readers, said to find history "dull," will learn much about the air war while enjoying the love story. "
Robert Huddleston, Resident Scholar
