Plot Summary of The Small Rain
"Katherine Forrester is ten years old when she is reunited with her mother Julie, a concert pianist who was hurt in a car accident years before. Their happiness doesn't last long, however; Julie dies and Katherine is sent to boarding school by her father and stepmother, Manya Sergeievna.

The days drag by, with Katherine studying piano at every opportunity and her classmates ignoring her. She does make a few friends during her time there, however, among them the aspiring actress Sarah Courtmont. "
