Plot Summary of The Tiger's Bride
"English missionary Reverend Abernathy has gone missing in a Chinese province, and his eldest daughter, Sarah, sets out to find his whereabouts. Unfortunately, the only English sea captain in Macao skilled enough to find him is Viscount Jamie Straithe, a rogue with a checkered past involving a dishonorable discharge from the royal navy. But Sarah is determined to find her father, and she not only convinces Jamie to make inquiries about the missionary; she also stows away on his ship to make sure the viscount keeps his word.

Sarah and Jamie are successful in locating the missionary, but his religious fervor has sparked a war in the province, and Reverend Abernathy is killed in the crossfire during the crew's escape back to the ship. Before he dies, the Reverend makes Jamie promise to take care of his family by marrying his daughter. Sarah and Jamie argue over which daughter Reverend Abernathy intended the viscount to marry, and Jamie insists that no matter the outcome, he will see Abernathys safely back to England.

Sarah and her sisters set sail with Jamie and his crew back to Europe. During a storm, the two end up on a deserted island, where their mutual attraction is finally consummated. Both are content living on the island, but after several weeks they are picked up by a war-battered English navy ship. Jamie insists that he and Sarah be married by the dying captain—an old enemy of Jamie's—to save Sarah's honor. Jamie helps the ship's crew make the necessary repairs and thus regains his reputation with the royal navy. When they return to England, Jamie is prepared to sell his old ship to repair his estate and provide Sarah with the lifestyle fitting for a viscountess. But Sarah learns that she no longer needs to take sole responsibility for her family's well-being, and she tries to convince Jamie that she has no desire to pull him away from the life he loves as a sea captain.
