Plot Summary of Come The Spring
"Cole Clayborne woke up in a jail cell with a pounding headache, a star on his chest, and a deep feeling of anger at the man who stole his compass and put him there. Daniel Ryan, a United States Marshall from Texas, had taken Cole's compass from his mama, Mama Rose, when she was coming home. Cole's compass has now been returned to him and he's helping Daniel to find some bank robbers he has been chasing for 2 years. They are becoming increasingly more aggressive with every robbery. If it weren't for a loose shoe string she would have been killed with the others in the bank robbery.

When Cole and Daniel suspect there was a witness to the latest robbery hiding under a desk they try to keep it quiet but the town has different ideas. The local sheriff locks the three women, one of which was the one who witnessed the robbery, in a jail cell. Cole and Daniel have to find out which one is the true witness as each woman has given the same story...it wasn't her. In turn each woman then confesses it was her and not the other women. The judge from Texas hearing the case has requested all three women be brought to him for the trial.

Cole takes Jessica first and heads out on horseback . Another marshall is to escort Rebecca via carriage. Daniel is to take Grace although she does most of the taking care of due to him coming down with the flu on the train. Along the way Cole and Jessica "have their wedding night" and Cole declares they will find a preacher at the next town. Daniel and Grace also develop strong feelings for one another along the way although Daniel fights his feelings to the bitter end. Finally, after a few set backs along the way and another robbery has taken place they all make it to the trial just in the nick of time.
