| Plot Summary of Lady of Fire |
"In 11th century Normandy, beautiful Eleanor of Nantes is much sought as a bride. But she loves Roger FitzGilbert, the one man she is forbidden to marry for Roger is believed to be the bastard son of Eleanor's father. Eleanor's father hopes to marry her to Henry, a younger son of William the Conqueror. Also contending for Eleanor's hand is Count Robert of Belesme. Robert, handsome, forceful and ruthless, pledges he will have Eleanor for his own.
When Eleanor and Roger learn that Roger is not her half-brother, she begs Roger to marry her so that she will not be claimed by Robert. Roger feels he is unworthy of Eleanor because of his lowly birth, but agrees to marry her because they love each other. Their marriage does not deter Robert, who has become obsessed with Eleanor. He vows to make Eleanor a widow. He kidnaps her and waits for Roger to try to rescue Eleanor. Robert is known as the most skilled warrior in France and he is certain he can defeat Roger and keep Eleanor for himself."
