Plot Summary of Secret Nights
"Elise Rand's father, Bartholomew, is accused of murder. She wants him defended by the best lawyer in London, Patrick Hamilton. But Patrick is ambitious with plans for a great political career. Taking a murder case which looks like a loser will not help Patrick's reputation, so, he declines. But Elise is determined. In addition to money, she offers Patrick sex with her. Patrick gives in to his lust for the beautiful Elise and agrees to defend Bartholomew if Elise becomes his mistress.

Patrick works to defend Bartholomew by trying to discover who committed the crime. Meanwhile, Patrick and Elise secretly meet at night. Their relationship is passionate and sensual and gradually they fall in love with each other. But Elise is not the wife Patrick wants. She has no aristocratic connections to further his political ambitions and if their affair is discovered, the scandal would ruin Patrick's reputation. "
