| Plot Summary of Fire and Steel |
"Catherine, the daughter of Eleanor and Roger, is an heiress whowill one day hold property in both England and Normandy. She is forced to marry Guy of Rivaux, a minor Norman lord, who Cat thinks is not worthy of her and more importantly, she thinks she loves someone else. After the wedding, Guy leaves Cat in Normandy without ever consummating the marriage.
Guy does not return to Cat for five years. By the time he returns, Cat is resentful of his treatment of her and fights with him every opportunity she gets. When Guy finally consummates their marriage, Cat is confused by how she feels. She wants to defy Guy but her body delights in what he does to her. Guy slowly wins Cat's love.
Meanwhile, Eleanor and Roger's old enemy, Robert of Belesme, is threatening Cat's family. Guy is prepared to fight Robert but he discovers that his mother was once Robert's lover. Guy is afraid that if Robert is his real father, it may ruin his own inheritance as well as his marriage to Cat."
