Plot Summary of The Princess Bride
"Buttercup is a milkmaid in the country of Florin. She realizes she loves the farm boy who works for her parents, but, although he loves her back, he knows he can never marry her unless he accumulates some money. So the farm boy, Westley, leaves Buttercup to go to America to get a job. Although this leaves Buttercup very sad, she perseveres until she learns Westley has been captured and killed by pirates. Prince Humperdink, the cruel but highly intelligent leader of Florin, chooses Buttercup to be his bride, and although Buttercup doesn't love Humperdink, she agrees.

During one of her daily horse rides, Buttercup is kidnapped by three mercenaries: a Sicilian mastermind named Vizzini, a Spanish swordfighter named Inigo, and a giant named Fezzik. They take her to the country of Guilder with the intent to kill her, but they are followed by a mysterious man in black. The man in black beats all three of the mercenaries in the attempt to get Buttercup. When Buttercup is finally free of the mercenaries, she realizes the man in black is actually her long-lost love, Westley. Together she and Westley face the horrors of the fire swamp, but at the end Prince Humperdink is waiting to arrest Westlely.

Buttercup is taken back to the castle to marry Humperdink and Westley is thrown into the pit of despair where he endures torture, and finally, death. Meanwhile, Inigo and Fezzik desperately want to break into the castle so Inigo can kill the six fingered man who murdered his father, but to do that, they realize they need Westley's help. "
