| Plot Summary of Echoes of Armageddon |
"The book is based on the experiences of eight British soldiers who did not survive World War One on the Western Front in France and Flanders.
In the 1980s, the author began tracing their lives and deaths through the memories of their relatives whom he interviewed face-to-face in Both England and Wales.
This undertaking over the course of 20 years is perhaps unique because it required the writing of more than 700 letters (this was before email) and driving 2,000 miles in England, Wales, Canada and the United States. Research included contacting regimental secretaries of each man's regiment, reading old newspaper accounts of the war, battalion war diaries and other sources of information found in British regimental histories published in the early 1920s."
B. Cory Kilvert Jr., Resident Scholar
