| Plot Summary of French Relations |
"Tash French is in her twenties, unemployed and her boyfriend Max seems to be losing interest in her so when her mother, Alexandra invites Tash to spend the summer at the French estate belonging to Pascal, Alexandra's new husband, Tash agrees. She arrives in France, with most of her luggage lost and finds that Alexandra wants to host a huge party for her brother who is returning from America. The estate is full of other guests including aunts and uncles, Tash's sisters and brothers and their children as well as their friends and lovers.
As a surprise for Tash, her mother gives her a horse hoping that training the difficult mount will renew Tash's childhood interest and restore some of Tash's confidence. But to Tash's dismay, she gets advice from one of the guests, Hugo, a successful rider, who Tash has been infatuated with since she was a teenager. But Hugo only mocks Tash and treats her like she is still an awkward girl. There are lots of other dramas going on. Tash's brother Matty and his pregnant wife Sally are having marital problems. Matty's friend, Niall, an Irish actor, shows up and stirs the lust of most of the women with his charm and emotional woes. Hugo's girlfriend, Amanda, spreads venom everywhere but especially towards Tash. Tash's successful and snobby sister, Sophia, tries to help straighten out Tash's life with unwanted advice. Cousin Marcus shows up with his bizarre friends, some of whom start hitting on bewildered Tash.
Tash starts to understand and care for the emotional Niall, even as she tries to overcome her obsession with Hugo, who maybe is slowly showing signs of interest in Tash. But then Max turns up claiming he loves Tash. "
