Plot Summary of Other Bells For Us to Ring
"Eleven-year-old Darcy Webster moves to the small town of Monument, Massachusetts with her parents early during the Second World War. Something of a loner, she has her first real friend in Kathleen Mary O'Hara, a smart and feisty girl who surprises Darcy one day by declaring her a Catholic. Darcy's recovering alcoholic father William enlists in the Army and eventually goes missing in action in the European theater. Her only friend Kathleen disappears without a word as well, so Darcy doesn't know to whom or what to turn for help or guidance. This tale was published by Robert Cormier in 1990."
