| Plot Summary of The Famous Heroine |
"Cora Downes is the daughter of a merchant but because she rescued the son of a duke, she became famous as a heroine and is invited to outings with the nobility of London. Cora decides this is an opportunity to have fun even if the aristocracy makes it clear she is not one of them.
Lord Francis Kneller, however, pays attention to Cora, even though he is also a son of a duke. Cora does not find him intimidating. Because of his extremely dandified way of dressing, particularly his pink coat, Cora thinks he prefers men to women and therefore, thinks it is safe to spend time in his company. But Francis and Cora get caught together alone and he realizes he has compromised Cora's reputation. They marry although neither wants the marriage.
The couple slowly come to learn more about each other, particularly, that Cora was wrong in thinking Francis did not want sex with a woman. They discover that not only do they enjoy each other's company and engage life with a zest, but they also share a passion, which soon develops into love."
