| Plot Summary of Lullaby and Good Night |

"Emily Stanton, an aspiring actress, took her daughter and left her husband, Warren Matthews, who happens to be a up-and-coming star in the Tammany corruption machine. An egotistical, abusive man, he quickly sets the Tammany wheels in motion, framing his wife for a crime she didn't commit in order to get grounds for a divorce and quick remarriage, and full custody of their daughter. Emily is stronger than Warren expected her to be, however, and she, in the face of extreme danger to herself and virtually no help from anyone with real power, fights to get her daughter back, and clear her name.
In the process of telling the story, we are taken into the World of Prohibition Era New York and meet many of the people who made New York such an interesting and dangerous place in the 20's and early 30's - the gambler Arnold Rothstein, Mayor Jimmy Walker, impresario Texas Guinan and madam Polly Adler all have a place in the story, and their real lives and professions are woven seamlessly in Emily's fictional story. "
