"David Goldberg is a university librarian. He is hired by Alan Stowe, an elderly millionaire, to be his part-time private librarian. Stowe is financing the re-election campaign of the conservative Republican president, Gus Scott. Scott is running against the Democrat Anne Lynn Murphy.
President Scott's re-election team also includes Jack Morgan, a top official in the Homeland Security Department, who is not afraid to use the resources of the department in the service of the campaign. When Murphy begins to do better in the polls, Morgan suspects that the Murphy campaign has planted spies in the Scott campaign. He suspects Goldberg. Morgan uses his beautiful wife, Niobe, to try to catch Goldberg.
When Goldberg is forced to go on the run, he discovers dangerous secrets about the re-election campaign."

"The main plot of "The Librarian" follows David Goldberg, a University librarian in Washington, D.c., as he takes on the side job of cataloging a private collection of papers for Alan Carston Stowe, a power-hungry billionaire. Set against the backdrop of the U.S. presidential campaign -- Augustus Winthrop Scott (Patriot Act wielding, terrorist-stomping incumbent) vs. Sen. Anne Lynn Murphy (Vietnam Veteran, medical doctor, liberal), Goldberg must uncover what Stowe and his cohorts (particularly the mysterious and ever-present "Gray Man") are planning in the event that their man loses his election.
Due to a series of wrong place/wrong time events, Goldberg finds himself running for his life, from government-employed hitmen. He enlists the assistance of the Director of Homeland Security's beautiful wife and two librarians with surprising strengths of their own. "
