| Plot Summary of A Counterfeit Betrothal |
"Lady Sophia Bryant is in Regency London for her first season when she comes up with a plan to reunite her estranged parents. She pretends to be betrothed to Lord Francis Sutton, son of a duke and a bit of a rake. She's known Francis all her life and he agrees to pretend they are in love. Her parents cannot reject his suit outright; Francis is the son of one of their oldest friends. Instead, Sophie's parents, Marcus and Olivia, must meet to consult each other about this betrothal of their young daughter.
Marc and Olivia have not seen each other for 14 years ever since Marc slept with a prostitute at a friend's party then confessed to Olivia. Olivia did not know how to forgive the man she married for love. But they come face to face in order to plan Sophie's wedding.
The two stories of Sophie and Francis and Marc and Olivia provide stark contrasts. Sophie and Francis begin to find out that pretending to be in love can feel a lot like the real thing. Their story is very humourous as they try to figure out how they are to end their counterfeit bethrothal. Marc and Olivia's story is very poignant as the estranged couple reunite and learn to forgive."
