|Plot Summary of John Fowles: A Life in Two Worlds|
|"John Fowles, is the British author of the bestsellers The Magus, The French Lieutenant's Woman, and Daniel Martin. He served in the Royal Marines at the end of the Second World War, taught school in France and on a Greek island, then proceeded to write novels, several of which were later filmed. There are many "two worlds" in his life: Britain vs. Greece, his middle-class suburban childhood vs. Oxford, city vs. nature, and Hollywood vs. the quiet life of an author on the south coast of England. This 2004 book is one of the most balanced "authorized" biographies ever written. Warburton was allowed total access to Fowles's papers, especially the journals he kept from the late 1940s into the 1990s. It doesn't always paint a pretty picture of the author and his obsessions and selfishness, but it is rich and fair, and a welcome portrait for fans of the novelist."
