Plot Summary of Shopaholic and Sister
"

Dial, Oct 2004, 23.00, 355 pp.
ISBN: 0385338090

Becky Brandon has traveled the world on her honeymoon with her spouse Luke, but in reality inside Becky remains a Bloomwood which means to Bex that she still is a shopaholic, whose global tour was a humongous shopping spree. However walking hot coals or trying to obtain a twelfth dynasty ring from the Royal Cairo Institute of Archeology is Bex doing what she does best, shop until her “opponent” drops even when the advice is not to ship six huskies from Alaska to London

Bex and Luke return to London, but he is not quite the cool hand anymore as her international bundles begin arriving at their penthouse. News on the home front is quite a shocker when Bex learns that dad sired a half-sister.   Bex pictures a shopping partner, but Jessica is her diametrical opposite as a prudent environmentalist who thinks shopping ranks with pollution. Luke walks out on Bex figuring there is not enough room for him and her packages. Bex joins her sibling on a protest against an environmentally incorrect corporation, but that impacts on Luke's job. Bex seeks a commonality with her sister and tries to persuade Luke to come home.

This shopaholic sequel contains some of the wit and humor of the previous tale especially when Bex corresponds with various people including those who refuse to sell an item that she has decided needs buying. However Jessica's caring about the environment even as an extreme tree hugger makes Bex look immature and shallow. Still fans will laugh at the antics of the SHOPAHOLIC AND SISTER as they both wonder how they share any part of the gene pool.

"Becky Bloomwood is married to Luke Brandon. After a ten month whirlwind honeymoon, they decide to head back home to England early and surprise family and friends. Becky ends up being the most surprised when she finds out her best friend Suze has a new close friend, and in her absense her parents have discovered Becky has a half sister, Jess.

Growing up an only child, Becky is thrilled to discover she has a sister, and is determined to make up for lost time. Unfortunately, Jess doesn't feel the same way. Becky soon discovers how very different her and Jess are. Becky still has her shopping problem, and insists on helping Luke land new clients for his growing business. The wrong type of client lands Luke in hot water and creates a strain on their marriage."

"This book starts off with the return of newlywed Rebecca Bloomwood Brandon to Britain with her husband Luke after nearly a year of honeymoon all over the globe. Convinced she has changed but the world she knew back home in Britain hasn't, Becky comes home to find all comforts changing at a rate almost unbelieveable to her. Her parents act highly unusual to the return of their only daughter after almost a year and seem to be hiding something, her husband who had changed while they were on honeymoon becomes workaholic again, and her best friend has no time for her any longer now that she has two new children and a best friend who understands the hard work of motherhood.

Not long into the book Becky discovers the secret her parents have been trying to hide, she has a sister that her father knew nothing about until not long before. Desperate to make a connection to her long-lost sister and to find a soul mate to replace the best friend she believes she's lost, Becky throws herself into connecting with this sister, all the while trying to help her husband with his business and keeping their finances above negative, a feat hard to do seeing as she is a shopaholic. Becky's sister turns out to be the exact opposite, she hates shopping and is very frugal with her money and cannot stand the fact that Becky wastes so much money.
Towards the peak of the book Becky finds herself in strife with all the people that matter most to her, she and her sister fight with harsh words over their differences, her husband is furious with her interferences with his business and her secrets of finance, her best friend and she are too hurt by one another to talk to each other, and her parents are striving to work hard at their marriage. No one seems to have time for Becky so she sets off to try and correct her wrongs within herself and become a better person, thus trying to mend her broken relationship with her estranged sister.

"Becky, the main character of this book is an eccentric "shopaholic", in every sense of the word. Her addiction to style and shopping is over-the-top entertaining. When Becky and Luke return to London from their 10-month, around the world honeymoon, Luke's previously barren flat is soon bombarded with a ridiculous amount of souvenirs, secretly purchased by Becky during their trip.

Upon their return home Becky is disappointed by the reception she receives from both her parents and her best friend. Her marriage doesn't seem that great either now that the honeymoon is over. Her spirits rise, however, when Becky learns of the existence of an unknown sister.

It seems, though, that these sisters couldn't be more different. Jessica is a graduate student obsessed with rocks and living economically-things Becky just doesn't understand. In spite of this, when Becky's marriage takes a turn for the worse, she turns to Jessica, hoping to learn her frugal ways and become a better person."
