Plot Summary of The Umpire Strikes Back
"Ron Luciano was an umpire in the American League from 1968 to 1979. He had been a professional football player until an injury ended his career. Most of his book deals with his life as an umpire, first in the minor leagues and then in the majors. He talks about Nolan Ryan throwing fastballs that he couldn't see, Rod Carew stealing home twice in one inning, Earl Weaver stealing second base and trying to take it back to the dugout, and Charlie Finley trying to make orange baseballs mandatory. He talks about his missed calls and gives the reader an insight life on and off the field in major league baseball."
