| Plot Summary of If I Had You |
"After giving up on her wayward daughter, Nora Crabtree is shocked when Tess suddenly shows up pregnant.
All Tess Crabtree wanted out of life was her mother's love and unconditional acceptance. Pregnant and broke and with an uncontrollable need, Tess returns home needing money for an abortion but her parents, who are devout Baptist, persuade Tess to give the child up for adoption. After seeing baby Tansy Aster, Tess is not capable of picking one needy couple over another. Tess finally has someone to love and to love her. Realizing that she will never be the person that her mother could love, Tess returns to her life with her drug smuggling, lowlife boyfriend.
Many years later, Tess realizes that she's made some pretty awful mistakes. With the help of her boyfriend, she abducts the child that she had abandoned.
With a child caught between them, Tess and Nora must solve their estrangement and trust in God.
