| Plot Summary of Memoirs of a Woman of Pleasure (Fanny Hill) |
"This is a frequently banned erotic book.
Written in the form of a memoir, this is an explicit fictional account of the life of an English prostitute in the 18th century. As a teenager, Fanny is saved from a whoremonger by a young man of the upper class. He falls in love with her and makes her his mistress. When he disappears, after a short period of bliss, she is forced to take up a life of prostitution and soon comes to enjoy it. She has all kinds of adventures, working in brothels and being a kept woman, and finally inherits enough money to retire. She meets up with her long lost lover and they are finally able to marry without his family trying to stop them."
