| Plot Summary of A Walk In The Woods |
"This is about Bryson's journey of discovery along America's Appalacian Trail (AT) that takes him from just outside Atlanta, GA to the mountainous woods of Maine. While he takes some breaks from his hike and does not complete the entire 2,160 mile trek, he gains an appreciation for the journey and the effort needed to walk even small portions of the AT.
He has penned a truly funny book detailing the gritty conditions and hardships of life along the trail. For companionship on his hike he has brought along a childhood friend. Together they meet odd and interesting individuals, encounter wildlife, experience the aches and pains caused by physical exertion and grow to appreciate the beauty and solitude of the American wilderness.
As Bryson chronicles the progress they make as they journey north, he tosses in facts about the AT, it's tragedies and triumphs, and quite a bit of insight into why he undertook this trip. He is a gifted journalist and a keen observer of the people, places and things around him."
