Lawyer Max Kramer bribes an eyewitness to recant testimony so that a homicidal conviction is overturned, freeing Jared Barnett. Detective Tommy Pakula and attorney Grace Wenninghoff know that Jared is a serial killer.

Jared visits his sister Melody and his seventeen year old nephew Charlie. While Melody is unhappy to see her brother, Charlie worships his uncle. Jared informs his two relatives that they will rob a bank. Jared and Charlie enter the bank and shots are fired. The two men race out with Charlie having blood all over his clothing. Tommy receives a call that a bank robbery turned violent. He calls Grace to tell her there are five dead at the bank.

A sheriff and a police copter chase the criminals, but a storm halts their efforts. Melody crashes the car, but the trio walks to the nearby state park cabins where Jared shoots Andrew Kane grazing his head. While the police give chase, Jared begins a murder spree with Andrew held hostage.

"Melanie Sparks and her son Charlie are con artists. When her brother Jared Barnett is released from jail, thanks to his crooked attorney Max Kramer, Jared has a plan that will change all their lives. His plan is to rob a bank in Nebraska with the help of Melanie and Charlie.

Jared thought he had everything worked out, but he soon realizes that even one false move can change everything. Within minutes after Jared and Charlie step into the bank, shots are fired. The two of them run out of the bank and into the get away car that Melanie is driving and thats when she notices the blood on them. Four people are dead and one is in critical condition, but neither one of them will tell her what happened. On the run from the police Jared realizes they need a new get away car. Their new car belongs to struggling author Andrew Kane. After finding out he finds Andrew's books "entertaining", Jared takes him hostage and on a journey he is bound to get inspiration from.

But when Detective Tommy Pakula learns that his friend has been taken hostage and things start to unveil he is determined to bring the trio down before its too late. "
