| Plot Summary of Out of the Dark |
"Taken as a young child by her mother, Jade remembers the abuse she suffered at the hands of cult leader, Solomon, but not much of her life before. After an especially heinous attack upon Jade by a man who thought she was "too old", Raphael, who was also brutally raped as a child, escapes with Jade to California. Jade, who is a talented street artist, sets up a kiosk. A chance sighting of a picture by vacationing friends of her father changes her life forever. The vacationers are struck by the similarity between the lady in the painting and their friend's missing wife.
Returning to Missouri they show the painting to Jade's father who hires ex-cop, Luke Kelly, to find Jade. Jade has to learn to trust Luke as Raphael has contracted AIDS. Jade's father is an extremely wealthy man and the disappearance of his wife and daughter made national headlines. The reporters are chomping for a new story and closure. Jade's return is more newsworthy but unfortunately one of her abusers is now running for election and could not possibly allow his like for children to surface.
